The Bottom of The School Bag Abyss
Every term, without fail, a form, a slip, or a party invite descends into said school bag, travels to the bottom, settles into a layer of crumbs other paperwork, and simply… hibernates.
For weeks.
I never know it exists until one of these situations happens: I get a generic email from school saying, “Thank you for returning the form.”
I stare at it, confused, because I definitely did not return the form.
I then have to phone the school with an apology: “Hi, yes, so sorry about the late reply… we’ve only just discovered the form. I’ll fill it in now and get him to bring it to reception tomorrow. So sorry, thank you, goodbye.”
And then—I wish this wasn’t true - I forget to put the completed form back in his bag ready for the next day.
My son casually wanders in, the evening before a birthday party, holding a crumpled invitation.
The conversation then goes something along the lines of: “Oh, Mum… I forgot to give you this.”
Cue me trying to RSVP at the same time as trying to find a semi decent present for a child I don’t know at 9pm the evening before said party.
Somewhere out there is a very organised parent who checks bags daily, turns in slips on time, and calmly RSVP’s before the deadline.
That parent is not me. And honestly? It will probably never be me.
I do write things down in my diary which I then forget to open.
I have all good intentions to set reminders on my phone but remember them too late.
I’m human. Sh*t happens.
